The geographical area of the Route spreads throughout the northern part of the Duero Depression, on the both banks of Pisuerga River. It’s located between Valladolid and Palencia, with the backbone of the A-62 highway, Pisuerga River, the Canal of Castile and railway line Madrid-Irún.
The Route covers nine towns of the Denomination of Origin Cigales: Fuensaldaña, Mucientes, Cigales, Corcos del Valle, Trigueros del Valle, Cubillas de Santa Marta, Valoria la Buena and Cabezón de Pisuerga from Province of Valladolid, and a city of Dueñas in Palencia.
In the centre of the Duero Valley, with an average altitude of 750 meters, the Denomination of Origin Cigales has presented special conditions for grape cultivation since the 10th century.
